Choosing A Colour For Your Front Door
Here at Fastframe, we’re very proud of our composite door range. They offer exceptional thermal efficiency and security, so are perfect for keeping homes warm, safe and dry. They’re built to last and can be relied on for years to come, resisting severe weather conditions and break-ins alike. And on a more superficial level, they look terrific too. Our modern composite doors are stylish and eye-catching, so will make a positive impression on visitors to a home.
We’ve received lots of nice feedback on how customisable they are. Our doors can be tailored for all tastes, so whether your client wants a traditional front door or something more contemporary, we can help.
One aspect we want to draw attention to today is the choice of colours. We offer multiple finishes, but how do you go about selecting the right one? Here’s our brief guide to choosing a colour for a new composite door.

One Door, Two Colours
It’s also possible to choose more than one colour for your composite door. If your client wants the reassuringly rustic brown of Irish Oak on the outside, but it clashes with the interior decoration, that’s no problem. You can opt for a different colour on the inside that better matches the decor. It makes the design options more versatile and less fixed in place.
Darker Colours
Some homeowners prefer darker colours. There are advantages to them and we can understand why black ash and grained anthracite grey doors are popular. They don’t show dirt for one thing, so if your client lives in an urban area this could be hugely beneficial. In high-traffic areas, the air isn’t as clean and dust and particles will accumulate on front doors. It’s less noticeable on darker-coloured doors though, and while they’ll still need cleaning, they’ll still look attractive until the weekend rolls around and there’s time to do it.
Additionally, there’s a certain refinement about darker doors. For example, a black door fitted with elegant chrome accessories will have a modern and stylish vibe that’s perfect for a cutting-edge new build.
Wood Effects
Alternatively, your customers could consider getting a composite door with a wood finish. Colours like our nut tree and Irish oak paint have a rustic charm about them which evokes a subtle, welcoming vibe. They’re ideal for homes in more rural areas, but they can also be paired with modern accessories for a more contemporary look.
Darker wood colours also work well with traditional homes. Rosewood for instance, suggests an inherent weight and reliability for a front door. It can also be interpreted as dignified and even a little imposing. If your customers have a taste for the Gothic, a darker-shaded wood effect paint could be ideal.

Green, White, And Cream Doors
Lastly, let’s consider our lighter colours. In the past, we’ve had tradespeople refer to our lighter colours as “breezy,” “light-hearted,” “airy,” “cheerful,” and many more. Our selection of greens, whites and creams are certainly less austere than the darker doors, so they’re perfect for a welcoming vibe.
Chartwell green is a natural-looking colour and pairs well with homes with extensive front gardens, or which are close to picturesque rivers or forests. It can make a home seem like an extension of nature itself. Alternatively, white and cream doors have a summery touch, and subtle nuances like adding a grain effect can make them feel more contemporary.
In other words, there’s a door out there for all tastes. If your customers have a particular decor in mind, choosing the right colour can do wonders.
